Over 50 journalists in Accra have successfully undergone training to enhance their knowledge in the field of reporting on Ghana’s energy transition process.

Organized by Citi TV/FM with support from the Natural Resource Governing Institute (NRGI), the training was designed to assist journalists in following climate change discussions and also deepen their reporting skills on the energy transition process.

The training brought together experts  including Clement Kojo Akapame, a senior Law Lecturer at GIMPA, Robert Sogbadzi, Commercial Operations Manager at Ghana National Gas Company, Dr. Riverson Oppong, and Patrick Stephensen from the Natural Resource Governing Institute (NRGI)

Taking journalists through some of the opportunities that will benefit the Ghanaian economy when the transition happens, Deputy Director at the  Energy Ministry, Robert Sogbadzi, disclosed that, Ghana has the opportunity to install clean energy technology to have access to the green bond market, trade carbon credits as well as job creation, and improved air quality

He indicated that Ghana’s energy transition can only be achieved in 2070 without Ghana running a bankrupt economy this is because by 2010, the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) will rise to $863.7billion with an average annual growth rate of 5%” which won’t favour the economy.

The Commercial Operations Manager of Ghana National Gas Company, Dr. Riverson said before implementing the Sustainable Development Goal and the Energy Transition, the government should first consider what he described as 3A’s (Availability, Accessibility, and Affordability).

Touching on the Existing Policy, Legal and Regulatory Framework for Energy Transition, Clement Akapame, a senior law lecturer at GIMPA indicated that there is no law governing the Climate Change and Energy Transition.
