The Member of Parliament for South Tongu, one of the constituencies affected by the Akosombo and Kpone Dams spillage, Kobla Mensah Woyome, has appealed to government to evacuate people living in the affected areas to the abandoned housing units at Saglemi as a stop-gap measure.

According to the MP, many of his constituents have lost their source of livelihood and are now at the mercy of benevolent friends and family for survival. He noted that evacuating the affected persons to the Saglemi would lessen the burden on the people.

Speaking on Atinka TV’s Ghana Nie with Bernard Lav, Mr. Woyome said assurance at this material time will not mitigate the level of devastation his constituents are currently facing. He, therefore, demanded immediate action from the government.

“Looking at the number of people displaced in North, Central, and South Tongu, I am of the view and would like to make a passionate appeal to the government to release the Housing Units at Saglemi, which are currently not being occupied to the people for one or two years”.

Over 26,000 persons living in the south Volta basin have been affected by the spillage of the Akosombo and Kpone Dams by the Volta River Authority.
